I joined the studio in 2008 after taking classes here and have finally found my medium in clay.
Although I had a career in the health field I have always painted and drawn and have an avid interest in nature and animals.
I had an "afterwork" career in set design and painting in amatuer theatre. This enabled me to join the Canadian Opera Company as a scenic painter for a brief time (8 months) while taking some time off from the health field.
Now that I have retired I am able to spend my creative hours in great company at the studio indulging myself in sculpture and handbuilding which is very satisfying. I love the feel and the smell of the clay, it has the same effect as gardening on me, tiring but great!
I prefer the dark clay bodies for handbuilding but use the smooth Raku clay for sculpture which I find works very well for this as well as for Raku firing.
